One Nation Studios recognises that, on rare occasions, it may be necessary to secure the AP setting site to protect students, staff, and visitors from a threat inside the AP setting or in the local area. Lockdown procedures are a sensible and proportionate response to any incident that may present a risk to safety.

There are two levels of lockdown:

  • ● Partial lockdown for an external or precautionary threat.
  • ● Full lockdown for an immediate or serious threat.

In a partial lockdown, all students, staff, and visitors must return indoors immediately. External doors and windows must be secured and no one should leave the building until authorised.

In a full lockdown, students, staff, and visitors must move immediately to the nearest safe room. Doors should be locked or secured, windows closed, blinds drawn where possible, and everyone should remain quiet and out of sight until the all-clear is given.

The AP setting’s lockdown signal is the shout of “Lockdown procedure, I repeat lockdown procedure, proceed to the safe room”. The all-clear will be given by a WhatsApp to the staff WhatsApp staff group. The lockdown signal will always be different from the fire alarm.

The CEO, or in their absence the senior member of staff on site, will be considered the ‘Incident Control Officer’ and will coordinate the response and contact emergency services. Staff must follow instructions immediately keeping students calm.

Parents/carers will be informed as soon as practicable. They should not come to the AP setting or telephone the AP setting during a lockdown unless requested, as this may hinder the AP setting’s response. Students will not be released to parents/carers until it is safe to do so.

Action Procedure

● Sound Alert – Activate lock-down procedures immediately

● Dial 999

● The Incident Control Officer will direct all students, staff, parents and signed in visitors to the nearest safe place, the ‘Live Room’.

● Secure the room and take action to increase protection from attack – Lock and barricade door

● Turn off the lights and mobile air conditioning units

● Hide, sit on the floor under desks, and away from windows

● Stay as silent as possible and put any mobile devises to silent. Instructions will be written on the Incident Control Officer’s phone and shown to all.

● Ensure that students, staff and visitors are aware of the exit point in case the intruder does manage to gain access

● Check for missing / injured students, staff and visitors

● Inform parents/carers that their children are in a lockdown situation and they should not come to the AP setting or call them

● Keep doors and windows locked shut and remain inside until an all-clear has been given by the Incident Control Officer or unless told to evacuate by the emergency services

The AP setting will ensure that staff are familiar with lockdown arrangements and that drills are carried out regularly and sensitively. This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner following an incident, drill outcome, or change in guidance.
